How to Choose a Home Automation Company in Dubai

Search for a home automation company in Dubai and you’ll find dozens of firms promising the same thing: a smarter villa, one app, effortless living. Some of them are excellent. Some will sell you a box of gadgets and disappear after handover. After eighteen years designing and installing automation across Dubai and the UAE, here’s what we’d genuinely look for — including the questions we’d want to be asked if the roles were reversed. (And if you’re still working out what a complete system should include, start with our guide to smart home solutions for Dubai villas.)

Start with who does the engineering

The single biggest difference between automation companies is whether the design, programming and commissioning happen in-house or get subcontracted. A smart home is a system, not a shopping list — someone has to design how lighting, AC, shading, security and AV behave together, then program and document it. If that work is outsourced, every future change means chasing a third party. Ask directly: who programs the system, and who do I call in two years?

Check what they’re certified on — not just what they can buy

Anyone can order a Crestron processor. Certified dealers are trained, supported by the manufacturer, and accountable to them. The serious platforms in Dubai are Crestron, Control4, KNX and Lutron, and a good company will be certified on more than one — because no single platform suits every home. Be wary of a firm that pushes the same brand on every project; the honest answer to “which system is best?” is “it depends on your home,” and we’ve written a plain-English comparison of Crestron, Control4 and KNX if you want the detail.

Ask to see finished work — in person

Renders and brand logos prove nothing. A real company can walk you through completed villas, show you systems that have been running for years, and let you feel the difference between a lighting scene that’s been tuned and one that’s been installed. If they have an experience centre or can arrange a private viewing of a finished project, that tells you more than any brochure.

One team for the whole scope beats five contractors

Automation touches lighting circuits, AC, curtains, CCTV, door access, networking and the cinema. When those are split across separate suppliers, the joints show — systems that almost talk to each other, and no one responsible when they don’t. A company that designs the whole scope under one roof gives you one point of responsibility, one programmer, one number to call.

Aftercare is the product

Any system works on day one. The question is year three: a new TV, a Wi-Fi upgrade, a scene you want changed. Ask what support actually looks like — response times, remote diagnostics, whether programming changes are handled by their own engineers. If the answer is vague, so is your future service.

Red flags worth trusting

  • A price-per-room quote before anyone has visited your home
  • No design or documentation phase
  • A different brand recommendation every time you ask
  • “The app does that” as the answer to every question
  • No service team you can name

A note on price

A proper system for a Dubai villa is an engineering project, and quotes vary widely with scope. Judge quotes on what’s engineered — design time, programming, documentation, aftercare — not just the hardware list. The cheapest bid usually costs the most by year two.

A few questions we’re often asked

How long does installation take?
Wiring happens during construction or renovation; programming and tuning typically take a few weeks at the end. Retrofit projects are staged room by room.

Can you take over a system another company installed?
Often, yes — it depends on the platform and how (or whether) it was documented. We assess it honestly before committing.

Do you handle villas outside Dubai?
Yes — we work across all seven emirates, and internationally for private clients.
